Wynwood Street Art

We are firm believers in not having to go far to have a new adventure. Sometimes, you can even travel to the same place and have a whole new experience. That’s how we feel about the Wynwood area of Miami. With its ever changing street art and murals, it guarantees it’s visitors a different experience every time.

Wynwood is a neighborhood of Miami, just north of downtown. Years ago, it was rundown and considered unsafe. Warehouses were deserted and stores unoccupied. But then Tony Goldman came along. He realized the potential that the neighborhood had and started purchasing warehouses and inviting artists from all over the world to paint murals on them.

Over the years, Wynwood has grown in popularity and is now considered one of the trendiest neighborhoods of Miami. There are cafes, shops, and art galleries. And every December, over 70,000 people flock to the area for Art Basel, a week long fair/festival where top artists showcase their prized pieces.

During this time, many of the walls in Wynwood are repainted. But really, new street art and murals are popping up year round. That’s why we love going back so often. On our latest trip down to Wynwood, we went around and admired the new paintings. Some where inspirational. Some were sexy. Others paid tribute to local icons. All of them unique and special in their own way.

Like we said earlier, you don’t always have to travel far to experience something new. And you might not have a lot of time or money. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a new adventure.

We loved spending the day in Wynwood; it’s a place that always offers a variety of different things to see and do and we can’t wait until our next visit.
