We unexpectedly discovered a few things to do in Metropolis, Illinois including visiting a giant superman statue and a casino.

Most people don’t realize that there really is a city in the US named Metropolis. We happened to stumble upon it on our road trip from hell and ended up staying a few days there.
We hadn’t anticipated a stay there. We didn’t even know the city of just over 6,400 people existed. But since we were going to be there a few days, we figured we’d explore and make the most out of the situation.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
Metropolis Casino
We spent a little bit of time at the Harrah’s Casino. We’re not gamblers, but we figured we’d check it out. There were a few bars, a buffet, and of course the usual slot machines and card games.
Giant Superman Statue
Of course we had to stop by the 15-foot tall Superman statue on Superman Square…
And the Noel Neill / Lois Lane statue…
Super Museum
But the best thing to do in Metropolis? Visit the Super Museum!
And even though we’re not that into Superman (we’re more into Marvel), we were totally nerding out at this museum. It’s kinda hard not to; there are over 20,000 items that span over 75 years of Superman history. From watches to movie props, this museum has it all!
Final Thoughts On Metropolis, Illinois
So although our adventure in Metropolis was definitely unexpected, at least now we can say we have visited the real Metropolis!

I learned something new! I also didn’t know that there was a real Metropolis in the USA! I haven’t been to Illinois yet, so I’ll have to add it to my itinerary for when I make a visit! I’d like to see the museum!
