*A big thank you to Visit Hampshire County for arranging our stay and to Starlight Llama Bed and Breakfast for hosting our stay. Although we were their guests, as always, all opinions are our own.*

Starlight Llama Bed And Breakfast

We were excited to be staying at Starlight Llama Bed and Breakfast. Although we’d spent time in Western Massachusetts before, this was a part of Northampton that we hadn’t been to before. It was going to be a “green getaway” since Starlight is completely off-the-grid and we looked forward to relaxing in this secluded and quiet area.

About Starlight Llama Bed And Breakfast

Starlight Llama Bed and Breakfast was started by John and Dee in 2008. The Northampton bed and breakfast is on 120 acres of protected land that has been in the family for six generations.

While staying at the Starlight Llama Bed and Breakfast, you can hike, bike, or snowshoe along their trails. And it is a working llama and hay farm so, depending on the time of the year, you can see the farm in action. It is possible to have a more hands-on experience too. You can help bring in hay, garden, weed, or feed the animals.

Other Starlight Animals

This unique Northampton bed and breakfast has more than just llamas, though. They also have emus, chickens, peacocks, and even a donkey! Many of these animals were rescued from bad situations and have found a loving home with John and Dee.

Solar Powered Bed And Breakfast

Starlight Llama Bed and Breakfast is the first solar powered bed and breakfast in Massachusetts. John and Dee chose to “go solar” because they wanted to help the environment. They also wanted to show people that it wasn’t a hard thing to do.

If you have any questions about solar power or using other energy saving techniques, feel free to ask John or Dee. They welcome questions and even offer tours of the home to school groups.

Starlight Llama Rooms

There are three room options at the Starlight Llama Bed and Breakfast. During our stay we were in the “White Room” which we found out is their most popular room. It had its own private entrance and there was a coffee and tea station in the hallway just outside of our room.

Inside was a queen sized bed and a wardrobe to put our stuff in. There was also a small desk, which was made by John himself. We also had our own bathroom, which had a shower, toilet, sink, and toiletries. Because it was winter time, we also really appreciated that our room had it’s own heater.

Starlight Llama Breakfast

This Northampton bed and breakfast really prides itself in providing quality service. This especially can be seen at breakfast time. We were asked ahead of time if we had any dietary restrictions, which we thought was very thoughtful. And although they serve vegetarian meals they can be altered to accommodate vegan, gluten-dairy, or soy-free diets.

During our stay, we started with yogurt, granola, fresh fruits, and coffee. Then we had some of John’s famous apple-cider french toast and cheesy scrambled eggs. Everything was delicious and as we ate we chatted with John and Dee. They told us more about the area and gave us local recommendations for places to see and places to eat.

I’d certainly recommend this b&b to anyone who wants to enjoy their days checking out Hampshire County and then return to their room and unwind in peace and quiet. John and Dee were indeed fantastic hosts and I enjoyed talking with them over breakfast. If anything, I only wish we had more time to hang with Pedro and the llamas.
