My New Travel Tattoo

Travel has always been an important part of my life. I love travel SO much, that I designed a travel tattoo for myself; something unique that would represent me!

I Love To Travel

How important is travel to me? I would say… very! That’s why I wanted a travel themed tattoo! I had wanted a travel tattoo for a while. It was just a matter of figuring out what to get. A map? A globe? A plane?

I wanted my travel tattoo to be different though; something of my own creation. I’m not sure at what point I thought of doing something resembling an EKG line. After a few initial ideas, I finally came up with a drawing that I loved.

Designing My Travel Tattoo

I wanted to represent my hometown of Miami and I have a thing for palm trees, so the first part of it was easy. Then, the word “wanderlust” because it is a desire that I have felt all of my life. And finally, a plane to represent going out and seeing the world.

Wanderlust – A very strong or irresistible impulse to travel

This wasn’t my first tattoo, but it had been a LONG time since my last one. And this one was going to be original, not something I picked off a wall. So I was pretty damn excited!

Getting My Travel Tattoo

A friend met me at the tattoo shop on that Sunday morning. She had also been wanting another tattoo for a while, so we decided to get them done together. Luis, an artist who came very highly recommended, was going to be doing both of our tattoos (you can see more of his work here).

Since it wasn’t a large tattoo and had no color, it didn’t take very long to do. It was also in an area that didn’t really hurt. So I barely felt anything and it seemed like I was in and out of the chair in no time.

  1. I love it! I don’t have a travel tattoo but I’ve always wanted a map/globe/compass tattoo of some sort.

  2. I love it! I’ve got tattoos but I’ve always wanted a travel tattoo – whether that be one that I got in a foreign country, of something connected to that country in some way or one that I can look at and smile, because it reminds me of who I am and what I’m passionate about in life. I think yours is both 🙂

  3. Vicky that is so cute, I love it! The perfect representation of your two loves, travel and Miami 🙂 xxx

  4. I love it! I got my first tattoo ever just before I started my full time travel life two years ago and just got my second here in Thailand by a monk! Both have huge meaning for me and deep connections to my love of travel.

  5. That’s a great way to combine your ideas. A tattoo is supposed to represent the person who wears it and it sounds like you designed this one to match you perfectly!

    1. What a great idea Ana! I hadn’t even thought of that! 😀

  9. Oh, I’m so jealous. I’ll never get a tattoo but I LOVE looking at them. This one is adorable – and different from the flaming-skull-with-blood-dripping-out-of-it’s-mouth genre (like all my ex boyfriends seemed to have). Ha.

    1. Ha! Your comment had me literally laughing out loud!

  10. Nice! I have a friend that gets a small tattoo for every new country they visit. It’s an amazing to keep you in remembrance of those travel days!

  11. Nice to be reminded about one’s wanderlust. 😉 Was it painful?

    1. Hi Claudia! It wasn’t painful at all. I think because it doesn’t hurt as much on the arm. Any time it’s over a bony area it hurts more.

  12. I love it! Beautifully delicate, feminine and UNIQUE! Nice one 😀 I just got a Sak Yant Tattoo in Thailand and am in love with it. Just like you, I hadn’t had a tattoo in ages but wanted it to be ‘right’: I’m really happy how it turned out 🙂

    1. That’s so great Alice! Can’t wait to see it. 🙂

  13. Love, love, love! I’ve been considering my first tattoo. This is motivation. ??✈️

    1. Aww! Thanks Kelly! And let us know if you end up getting one! 🙂
