Best Places To Skydive In The US
From coast to coast, there are some great places to go skydiving in the US. From up high, you’ll see amazing views of clear blue waters, deserts, or mountains. That initial feeling when you jump is exhilarating. Once you’ve pulled the chute and are taking in the miles of scenery, though, the feeling turns into a mixture of awe and peacefulness.
Along with the skydive in Florida that we did, we’ve also compiled some other great places to skydive in the US thanks to some fellow bloggers. So if you’re ready to take the leap, literally, read on…
Midland, Virginia
Kelly of Snap Travel Magic
I was in grad school and itching for adventure. After scanning Groupon, and roping in my friend, I purchased skydiving passes for DC Skydiving in Midland, Virginia, about an hour away from where I lived. I was excited to skydive, but after the form-signing and training, I was terrified, and emptied my stomach before deciding that I still wanted to jump.
Free-falling from 2 miles in the sky at speeds of 120mph is exhilarating. The world goes quiet, and you feel alive. When the parachute opened I saw miles of beautiful Virginia farmland and forests.
If you’re thinking of skydiving I recommend eating lightly before you dive and investing in photos and videos of the experience. If you’re nervous to skydive, having a friend come with you to support you will help. Even if you’re scared, just go for it – skydiving is an experience that you’ll remember forever!
Moab, Utah
Megan of Red Around the World
Moab, Utah is best known for its outdoor activities like mountain biking, rafting, and climbing or its proximity to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, but it’s also one of the best places to skydive in the US. While it’s not for everyone, it will let you see the parks, especially Canyonlands in a whole new perspective: from 8,000 to 12,000 feet.
This is definitely not something everyone passing through does, so it’s a great activity if you want that adrenaline rush and to do something a lot of people don’t. You’ll spend a couple of hours in total preparing for the jump, actually jumping, and getting everything together after. This is a truly unique way to experience the desert and all it has to offer that’s perfect for all you adrenaline junkies out there.
Oahu, Hawaii
Kay of The Awkward Traveller
Hands down, one of the most beautiful places to skydive in the US is on one of the islands of Hawai’i. For one, everything is better in Hawai’i. Second, soaring over the blue waters and lush green mountains is an unforgettable sight. The scenery alone is what makes skydiving in Hawai’i memorable.
One incredible company to skydive with on the island of Oahu is Skydive Hawaii. They operate on the North Shore of Oahu, and have extremely affordable rates compared to other operators on Oahu.
If you are hesitant to skydive, just a few tips to make your experience smoother: make sure to get enough rest the night before and a well-balanced meal at least three hours before. If you are prone to motion sickness, make sure to take medication before your jump!
San Diego, California
Chantae of The Salt Sirens
While San Diego might be famous for its ocean adventures, there’s plenty of thrills to be had inland as well. On my 18th birthday, my friend surprised me with a gift of going on a tandem skydive at Skydive San Diego.
At 13,000 feet, my skydive guide ushered me to the edge of the plane. On the count of three, we jumped, free-falling for over a minute in the air before my guide pulled the parachute. Because we were so high, the ground looked abstract and I didn’t feel a fear of heights.
Sensing I was comfortable, my guide pulled on the parachute lines and twirled us in the air. To the west, I could see the Pacific Ocean with the Baja Peninsula stretching south. If you’re nervous for your first time, don’t be afraid to tell your guide. They’re there to make the experience fun!
Titusville, Florida
One of the many things to do in Titusville, besides going to Kennedy Space Center and the beach, is going skydiving. Skydiving in Titusville is special because at 18,000 feet it’s the world’s highest tandem jump.
We were very nervous before the jump and tried as much as we could to not think about it at all. Once we jumped though, we loved it. After free-falling for almost a minute, our chute was pulled and we glided back to Earth. This was our favorite part. We could see Kennedy Space Center, Orlando, and off in the distance we could even see Miami.
Although we had been nervous, we’re so glad we did it. And we’re glad we paid extra for the professional photos. It’s a great way to remember the experience, especially if it’s your first time skydiving.
Tullahoma, Tennessee
Ashley of Wild Hearted
I’d always wanted to skydive and had never really been afraid of doing it. It was more of the oh, I’ll get to it one day kind of thing. Well, I finally decided after coming across a great deal that I needed to do it. So, I bought it, scheduled my date, and took my mom with me for moral support. I didn’t really need it, but why turn it down if it’s offered, right?
Located about an hour outside of Nashville, I went with Skydive Tennessee in Tullahoma. The price was fair, the team was professional and friendly, and the whole thing felt very safe and efficient. Once there, my mom decided she wanted to do it, so before she could change her mind, I bought her a ticket too and it ended up being a serendipitous mother-daughter experience that I’ll never forget!
Pro Tip: After your skydive in Tullahoma, head over to Nashville for the weekend!
