It’s a bird… It’s a plane… It’s….. a giant Superman statue in the middle of Superman Square!
Most people don’t realize that there really is a city in the US named Metropolis. I happened to stumble upon it on my road trip from hell and ended up staying a few days there.
I hadn’t anticipated a stay there. I didn’t even know the city of just over 6,400 people existed. But since I was going to be there a few days, I figured I’d explore and make the most out of the situation.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
I spent a little bit of time at the Harrah’s Casino. I’m not a gambler, but I figured I’d check it out. There were a few bars, a buffet, and of course the usual slot machines and card games.
Of course I had to stop by the 15-foot tall Superman statue on Superman Square…
And the Noel Neill / Lois Lane statue…
But the piece de resistance? The Super Museum!
And even though I’m not that into Superman (I’m more of a Marvel girl), I was totally nerding out at this museum. It’s kinda hard not to. I mean, there are over 20,000 items that span over 75 years of Superman history. From watches to movie props, this museum has it all!
So although my adventure in Metropolis was definitely unexpected, at least now I can say I have visited the real Metropolis. 😀
